Serving a God Who Lies

241

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

God has a long history of lying to human beings.  This is one of those uncomfortable truths that none of us want to deal with, so we try to ignore it as long as possible.  But when God calls you to function as one of His prophets, you end up forced to deal with the lying business, because you’re the one He’s very likely to do some of His lying through.  Who wants to look like an idiot by prophesying something that doesn’t happen?  No one.  But prophets aren’t the only ones who get affected by God’s deceptiveness.  If you pursue God long enough, it’s only a matter of time until He lies to you about something you really care about.  Then what?  You’ll feel all bitter and disillusioned, of course.  There’s nothing fun about the first time God hits you with some bit of crushing disillusionment.  It’s rather like a first heartbreak—it’s really miserable and it permanently changes you.  Of course it’s a lot easier to get sympathy for a broken heart than it is for God lying to you.  Among Christians, it’s taboo to use the phrase “God lies,” and souls who are caught in this stage with Him often end up shunned, harshly criticized, and blamed for all sorts of things.  This is one of the reasons we discuss the topic of God lying in such depth on our site: because when you’re dealing with it for the first time, it’s a very lonely road.  Read more of this post

The Real End Times: Why Israel is Irrelevant

241

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

If you read through our material on the end times, it won’t take you long to notice something very strange.

We don’t talk about Israel.

But wait—we are prophesying about the end times, aren’t we?  Yes, we are.  And we are claiming to be getting our information directly from God, aren’t we?  Yes, we are.  Unlike so many false prophets who get together and synchronize their “visions” before they publicly broadcast their messages, we don’t give a flip about what any other yahoo is telling you about the end times.  Such is the freedom of knowing when God is talking to you: you don’t need the big boys to agree with you.  Read more of this post

Understanding God’s Silence: Why He Withholds Affirmation

184

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

Here’s an exasperating pattern which some of you are currently experiencing: when God is displeased with you He is very clear with His corrective convictions, but when it comes to expressing His pleasure with you He’s being deathly quiet.  It’s not that He can’t communicate His pleasure with you—it’s that He won’t.  And because God is being so tight-lipped, you naturally spend a lot of time anxiously fretting about your standing with Him.

God says that if we sincerely care about pleasing Him, then we can know for a fact that He is pleased with us.  We can understand this principle in our souls, but the lack of positive affirmation from God still leaves us squirming.  So what is God’s point in doing this?  Why is He so silent towards the souls who care most about Him? The Great Gift of Sin: Why Our Depravity Gives Us Hope

80

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

Ever feel confused about the topic of sin? You should, because it is confusing. Ever feel like God is impossible to please? It’s only natural to arrive at that conclusion once you understand a few things about how He defines sin. In this post, we’re going to sort out the confusion that leads to you feeling depressed and hopeless about ever being good enough in God’s eyes and help you understand how easy He is to succeed with. We’ll also learn why salvation is a permanent deal, and not some flimsy thing that you have to worry about losing through bad behavior.

In the Church today, various Christian denominations take drastically different stands on the subjects of sin and salvation. Some insist that it’s possible for you to be sinless. Many teach that unless you continuously strive and strain to be good, God will revoke your salvation and disown you. Cruise around the internet and you’ll find some very hostile language getting used on both sides as everyone insists that their views are right and everyone else is speaking for Satan. If Christian leaders can’t agree with each other on such essential theology, how can you ever hope to find peace yourself? How can you ever gain a confident understanding about what God requires of you and when He’s pleased with you? The answer’s simple: you need to talk to God directly. Read more of this post

Untaught Lessons of the Cross: Facing the Dark Side of God

37

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

“For Yahweh loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

“No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

In the world of Christendom, the cross has become a powerful symbol of love. This is quite right, for Jesus clearly associated His crucifixion with an act of great love on the part of both Yahweh and Himself. But Jesus never said that the cross was only about love. In fact, He also taught His Old Covenant Jewish disciples to associate His death on a cross with an atonement sacrifice for sins, and by doing that, Jesus turned the cross into a most disturbing conglomeration of lessons—many of which we carefully avoid discussing in the Church. So let’s discuss them now, because it is the untaught lessons of the cross which have become most important for modern day Christians to learn. Read more of this post

The Purpose of Dysfunction: Understanding Why God Messed You Up

26

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

You have issues. Maybe you beat your wife. Maybe you always sabotage relationships. Maybe you have to show off all the time. Maybe you freak out over having sex. Maybe you can’t get enough sex. Maybe you fantasize about hurting people. Whatever it is, you can see that you’re messed up in your head, but you honestly don’t get why. The day comes when you finally decide to get help. All of a sudden, it’s like your eyes are opened. Finally you can see your dysfunctional behavior in a whole new light. Now you get that you beat your wife because you’re ragingly insecure and afraid of her dominating you. Now you get that you always sabotage relationships because you’re so afraid of someone else dumping you first. Now you understand that your obsession with sex is driven by a desperate need for the affirmation that you never got as a kid. When the lights go on like this, we feel like we’re making some real progress. By the time we start aggressively seeking help, we’re fed up with the damage that our destructive habits are having on our lives. We want to change. We want to cut away these old anchors and move on already. So now that we’re understanding ourselves better than ever before, it should be a simple matter to change, right? Wrong. Are some people hurting too much to find God?

18

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

Look around this world and you’ll discover that some souls are living out some truly hellish lives.  What are we to make of this?  Does God really expect souls to search for Him in the midst of horrific suffering that never lets up?  Is He really going to chuck them into Hell when they die because they were worshiping the wrong gods or no gods at all?  Is God really loving towards all of us or is He a sadistic Monster to some of us?  Does God consider some of us to be expendable objects which He just uses to bring about the well-being of others?  If God doesn’t need us, then how do we know He isn’t totally indifferent towards us?  These are the questions we’ll answer in this post. Better than Heaven: Pursuing What Really Matters

277

AUDIO VERSION: YouTube  Podbean

Look around at this world you live in. Read the news. Watch people interacting with each other. Ponder historical accounts and realize that everything you see, hear about, and read about is God’s choice. We are living in a reality which God created—a reality which He is currently controlling and outworking to go exactly as He wants. Both the good and the bad—they are all being selected by Him. Consider everything you love and everything you hate and realize that none of it would exist if it weren’t for God. From adorable kittens chasing their own tails to lions ripping the flesh off of creatures who are still writhing in pain—it’s all God’s choice.

God’s choice is a vastly different concept than human choice. We humans are created beings who can only ever choose between a very limited set of options. Those options are placed before us by our uncreated Creator—a Being who has infinite possibilities at His disposal. The more you understand about who God is, the more you realize how impossible it is to argue that anything goes on in this world apart from His will. Can a pen write on its own? No, it can only write when you pick it up and begin running its tip over some writing surface. In the same way, God’s creatures can scheme and dream about all the things they’d like to do, but none of their plans will come to fruition without God’s approval and help. Read more of this post
